DEUBA, JHALANATH KHANAL OPPOSE CABINET DECISION
TO RATIFY MAOIST PARALLEL GOVT, DECISIONS OF PARTY LEADING GOVT. DURING INSURGENCY

Kathmandu, 18 Jan.: Senior NC leader and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba warned of nationwide protests Wednesday if
Maoists and government don’t correct an unannounced cabinet decision to certify decisions of Maoist parallel governments at local level to seize assets.
Deuba issued the warning in Dhangadi as the main opposition
party held discussions in the capital to discuss state structure and fro of government and other issues.
The top NC leader called for a rectification of the cabinet decision.
Deuba has differences with the establishment led by President Sushil Koirala.
A newspaper Tuesday broke the news of the new of the cabinet decision.

UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal also said in the capital
Wednesday there can be no cooperation with Maoists overturn the decision.
The comments come one day after the opposition boycotted a meeting with the ruling parties following the news break.
The opposition also obstructed parliament session Tuesday threatening street and legislative protests without rectification of the unannounced cabinet decision.
Maoist Chairman Prachanda minimized the comments saying the
comments were ‘a storm in a tea cup’.
The government decision comes even after agreement by Maoists n an agreement with opposition to return seized assets.
The Maoist party establishment, it now appears, wasn’t keen to
implement the agreement opposed by a hard-lone Mohan Baidya faction.
The development has already soured relations between government and opposition and will impact the delayed peace and constitution drafting processes.
Parties outside government supporting government have been embarrassed by the government decision.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union, Baglung on Wednesday, Sitaula accused the ruling UCPN-Maoist of trying to get detached itself from the peace and constitution by raising unnecessary issues.

Accusing the Maoists of causing obstructions in concluding the peace and constitution drafting processes, the Congress leader claimed that his party was seriously working to draft a pro-people constitution.
