GOVT. WORKING out CONCESSIONS ON RAISED FUEL PRICES
Kathmandu, 18 Jan.: Officials of Nepal Oil Corporation ((NOC)
said Wednesday concessions for purchase of POL products like kerosene are being worked out for groups ,including students
The announcement was made amid protests against hike in prices of POL products with immediate effect.
NOC claimed the state monopoly was still in the red after the hike saying prices were hiked to match price increase in the international market.
Government has underwritten nearly three billion rupees loan to
NOC for oil import as its Indian counterpart refuses to supply
POL products to Nepal on credit.
Economic Advisor Rameshwor Khanal to the premier said the
taxpayer will ultimately have to foot the import bill as NOC won’t be able to repay the borrowed money.

Kathmandu, 18 Jan.: A person working at Ghorahi Cement Factory in Laxmipur of Dang district was beaten to death, RSS reports from Dang..
According to District Police Office, Dang, a group of local youths battered Khem Raj Subedi hailing from Lamahi of Narayanpur VDC.
Local youths, who barged into the cement factory on Monday evening without permission, had thrashed Subedi leaving him critically injured.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment in Rapti sub-regional hospital, police informed.
Police initiated investigation into the incident by arresting six suspects, said Dang Police Chief, Ganesh Bahadur Eire. RSS

Chancellor of the University and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has appointed Ghimire as the registrar, as vice-chancellor of the University Kailashnath Pyakurel had recommended three names to the chancellor for appointment in the post of registrar.
Vice-chancellor Pyakurel said Dr. Ghimire will assume office within a few days.
Dr. Ghimire of Sharadanagar VDC-3 obtained Ph.D degree on Plant Genetic Engineering from Japan in 2005. He was also in the University of Agriculture and Forestry Preparation Committee.
