MAOISTS FIRM AGAINST GOVT.

THREE-PARTY SUMMIT BEGINS; MAOISTS TO STICK WITH GOVT. DECISION

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 26 Jan. A summit of the Big Three began Thursday as
office bearers of UCPN (Maoist) minutes earlier rejected opposition demands not to implement an unannounced decision of the cabinet to implement decisions of parallel Maoist governments during the insurgency to seize assets of people.
The decision of the party leading the government came 12 hours after a front Madeshbadi parties in government asked Maoists to come to an understanding with two biggest opposition parties NC and UML on the controversial issue.
The supreme court has also asked government agencies to put on hold implementation of the decision opposed by Madeshbadi coalition partners.
The Maoist decision will polarize politics as the major political
parties will mss a second deadline to resolve differences on themes to be included in a proposed constitution by 29 Jan.
The first 29 December deadline was also missed.
NC and UML with the support of 15other parties has rules out talks with government and a Maoists until the government decision is corrected.
The Maoist decision will certainly impact a scheduled meeting of
parliament scheduled later in the afternoon.
Three legislative sessions have been obstructed by the opposition.
