MAOISTS, MADESHBADI FRONT TO HOLD REVIEW TALKS

Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: Maoists leading the government and a front of ruling Madeshbadi parties in government are holing a meeting later
Monday to review the working of government and implementation of past
agreements.
The front has been charging Maoists for not implementing fully
a 4-point agreement that incorporates regional terai demands.
The Baburam Bhattarai and establishment of UCPN (Maoist)
signed the agreement to secure the leadership of the government wrestingit from UML now in the opposition.
Young Turks in the Front have been pressing top leaders to
withdraw from the four-month government charging Maoists
have renegaded on the agreement.
Hard-line faction of First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has opposed the agreement charging it was in anti-national and signed without party approval.
Maoists agreed to mass recruitment of Madeshbadi youth Nepal
Army (NA) and distribution of suspended naturalized citizenship for Madeshis

BIMSTEC MEET STARTS

Kathmandu, 16 Jan.: A two-day second ministerial meet of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) got underway in the Nepali capital Monday to endorse a Poverty Plan of Action (PPA) for member countries
The first meeting was held in Dhaka 2008 to discuss the PPA.
Nepal was given responsibility to prepare a PPA draft.
Besides Nepal, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma
and Thailand are members of the grouping of South Asian
and Southeast Asian countries.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER GACHEDHAR LEAVING
FOR INDIA TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 16 Jan.: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister
Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar leaves for New Delhi Tuesday with security
chiefs for discussions with his Indian counterpart, Nagarik reports.
Nepal Police IGP Rabindra Pratap Shah and National Investigation Department Chief Moti Gurung is accompanying the minister.
Home Secretary Sushil Jung Rana is already in New Delhi for
talks with his counterpart.
