PRESIDENT TO LAUNCH VISIT LUMBINI YEAR 2012
Kathmandu, 12 Jan.: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav will simultaneously launch theVisit Lumbini Year 2012 and Tourism Vision 2020 Saturday
from Lumbini, the birthplace of The Buddha.
The campaign starts a fortnight after the end of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 national campaign to attract one million tourists which couldn’t be
met.
Government in tandem with travel trade entrepreneur is attempting to market Lumbini worldwide—not only in major Buddhist states.

TWO NTB BOARD MEMBERS SACKED
Kathmandu, 12 Jan.: Two members of Nepal Tourist Board (NTB) have been sacked by tourism ministry.
The ministry unceremoniously removed restauranter Shyam Lal Kakshapati of Nanglo fame and Amar Bahadur Shahi who were among five board members from the private sector.
The move came after the supreme court stay order
Not to appoint new board members who have to nominate a CEO and member-secretary of NTB to succeed Prachanda Man Shrestha who completed a three-year tenure.

BUSINESSMAN PAWAN SANGHAI RETURNS HOME

AGRICULTURE CENSUS BEGINS
Kathmandu, 12 Jan.:: The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has kicked off the sixth National Agriculture Census-2012 with an objective to collect data required for agriculture sector, which has one-third contribution to the national income, RSS reports.

Having started from 1962, the agricultural census carried out in every 10 years is meant for the collection, update and distribution of data in various aspects of agriculture sector.

The sixth census has started from the mid-December of the Year 2011. The census enumeration works will be conducted in two phases during the period of a year, informed Chief of CBS, Agriculture Census Section, Ambika Basyal.

In the census, primary information of the agriculture sector at the district-level are also produced and documented. 'Information received from the agricultural census will be very much helpful for planners, policy-makers, researchers and stakeholders', section chief Basyal said.

The first phase of the census has come into effect in 59 districts of Terai and mountainous part, with the plan to complete by mid-March.

Likewise, the second phase will be effective in 16 hilly districts only from mid-April due to chilly weather.

The enumerators will collect data reaching the wards selected at district level on the basis of comprehensive sampling survey as per the structured questionnaire.
