FOODL SHORTAGE IN VERESTREGION AFTER HEAVY SNOW

Kathmandu, 9 Jan.:: Normal life has been hit hard in the upper part of the Solukhumbu district, due to heavy snowfall and chill, which have triggered a trouble: food shortage in the region adjoined to Mount Everest, RSS reports from Solukhumbi..

Shortage of foodstuffs has affected the locals of Khumbu region in the district, as the thick snow blanketing all human settlements in the region for two weeks, has not melted.

Hoteliers of this famous tourist area complained that they have been mostly affected due to lack of foodstuffs supply, at a time when snowfall has halted people's movement.

Usually helicopters are used to supply foods in the upper parts of the district due to lack of proper road networks. But even helicopter landing has become next to impossible, thanks to heavy snowfall.

Locals said most of the areas in Khumjung VDC are covered with snow though snow in Chaurikharka and Namche has slightly melted.

According to a local Pasang Sherpa of Namche-8, this year’s snowfall has entirely crippled human life in Khumbu region.

“Even the daily commodities and other materials required during the winter season are inaccessible at this state of affairs,” added Sherpa lamenting over the closure of local shops due to snowfall.
