CABINET MEET STARTS TO MEET ASSURANCES TO OPPOSITION

CABINET MEET TO CORRECT ASSURED DECISION
BEGINS

Kathmandu, 9 Feb.: A cabinet meeting to correct an assured cabinet
decision legalize seizure of people’s assets during the 10-year Maoist insurgency hot underway Thursday morning.
Maoists gave the assurance to rectify the decision at a meeting with opposition NC and UML Wednesday s a pre-condition to break an political impasse.
Parliament is scheduled to meet Thursday afternoon.
The legislative session, which Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is expected to address, will move smoothly only if the cabinet addresses the concerns of the opposition.
Parliament session was obstructed Wednesday as well.

SUNSHINE OVER THE CAPITAL

Kathmandu, 9 Feb.: Sun broke through cloud cover Thursday morning bringing relief to residents after heavy rain lashed the Valley from 10 at nght Tuesday.
Heavy downpour throughout Wednesday kept people indoors as shiw nd rain hit the Himalayan, hill and other regions .
But the rain cheered the farmers as the rain will help winter
crops.
The minimum temperature recorded in the capital was six degrees Celsius with the mercury expected to rise of 24 degrees Celsius
Thursday afternoon.

MAOIST STANDING COMMITTEE MEETS

Kathmandu, 9 Feb.: Maoist standing committee meets Thursday morning to discuss its agreement with opposition NC and UML
Wednesday.
The party leading the government will also discuss severance allowance demanded by YCL—a paramilitary wing of the party—and integration of former PLA fighters in Nepal Army.
There are only 6,500 openings for the former fighters with
Interest shown by 9, 707 former fighters to join the state army
under a directorate.
A special committee chaired by the premier will discuss the
issue and aberrations that have surfaced while sending back
home former fighters from seven cantonments for the first time
in five years.
Opposition demanded the committee meet be convened to
discuss the issues.
