40 FORMER MAOIST FIGHTER CHEQUES SNATCHED IN ILAM
Kathmandu, 10 Feb.: Forty former Maoist fighters returning home Friday from a camp in Ilam after five years, complained cheques issued to
them by government as a golden handshake were snatched from them
by commanders deployed by the party.
The complaint was made before the media amid widespread abuses despite denial by UCPN (Maoist).
Twenty-nine such complaints have been lodged at the secretariat of a special committee chaired ex-officio by the premier for integration and
resettlement of the former fighters until Friday after a 24-hour hotline was established to receive complaints, Secretary Balananda Sharma said.
Complaints were received over telephone, E-mail , personally and other means, Sharma added.
Over 7,2000 former fighters opted for voluntary retirement; the retirement started last Friday and the process will be completed in a couple of
days

PM, SENIOR UN OFFICIAL MEET
Kathmandu, 10 Feb.: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai held consultations with visiting senior UN diplomat Samuel Tamrat and briefed him on developments in concluding the peace process and constitution drafting Friday.
Tamrat arrived Thursday night to review the implementation of the peace and constitution processes.
A basic law has to be promulgated by 28 May.
UN oversees political developments in Nepal from New York headquarters after UNMIN withdrew 15 January 2011 without completing the
processes.
Tamrat has been involved with UN efforts to manage changeover from a monarchy to a republic; he was deputy of Ian Martin, special representative of the UN Secretary General and Chief of UNMIN.
Tamrat has arrived when the twin processes of complementing the peace and constitution drafting have hit obtacles.

MAOISTS TO DISCUSS CONSENSUS GOVT. IN DETAIL
SATURDAY
Kathmandu, 10 Feb.: Maoist standing committee will discuss in detail internal demand for a change to replace the government of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai by a consensus government Saturday, Secretary CP. Gajurel said.
Detailed discussions couldn’t be held Friday.
Maoists could lead such a government, Gajurel added.

JYC ENTERS FINAL OF AHA GOLDGUP FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Kathmandu, 10 Feb.: Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) entered the final of the Aha Gold Cup in Pokhara Friday beating India’s Pune FC 4-0.
Karna Limbu scored all four goals
JYC will play Manang Marshyangdhi Club in the final.

ANOTHER BANGLADESHI NATIONAL ARRESTED
Kathmandu, 10 Feb.: Another Bangldeshi national arrested Rasel Runi Ahmed, 21,was arrested during a raid Friday in Mahadessthan, Balkhu, for illegally operating an international telephone call bypass racket.
Bangadeshi nationals have been involved in the lucrative racket.
Equipment used in call bypass were recovered during the raid on Ahmed’s
premises.
Altogether 1,001 SIM cards were also recovered.
