MAOIST STANDING COMMITTEE MEETS AGAIN SUNDAY
Kathmandu, 12 Feb.: A postponed Maoist standing committee meets Sunday.
A scheduled meeting was postponed without discussion Saturday
after a hard-line faction led by First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya demanded resignation of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.and the government’s replacement by a government of national consensus.
Chairman Prachannda has been asked to pursue talks to form a consensus government.

PARTIES SEEKING ONE MONTH TO
RESOLVE DIFFERENCES ON CONSTITUTION
Kathmandu, 12 Feb.: The main constitution drafting committee chaired by Nilambar Acharya meets Sunday. after a summit of the Big Three Saturday agreed Sunday’s deadline to resolve differences on themes for
incorporation in a constitution won’t be met for the third time.
Parties are toying with an idea to ask Speaker Subash Nemwang to extend time for resolution of differences for another 30 days without chanding the date to promulgate a constitution by 28 May amid fears that deadline won’t be met as well.
Without resolution of differences on subjects for incorporation
in a basic law, the Acharya committee can’t proceed to prepare a draft a constitution.
Differences on fundamental issues, including a new federal state
structure weren’t resolved with accusation against major players they were just wasting time politicking.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Speaker Subash Nemwang
have petitioned the supreme court to review its verdict the
present six-month tenure of the constituent assembly would be the last.
Even PM Bhattarai said when assuming office five months ago, six months was inadequate to complete a draft of a basic law.
A new schedule for resolving constitutional differences will be enforced after discussions with Chairman Subash Nemwang.
Preliminary discussions were held Saturday night between Nemwang, Maoist Chairman Prachanda, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal NC Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel and Madeshbadi front central leader Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar.
“We have already declared a republic but haven’t institutionalized it yet,’ the speaker said.
