RPP. RJP DELAYED MOVE FOR UNITY

RPP, RJP MOVE FOR UNITY
Kathmandu, 26 Feb.: A joint national convention of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Janshakti Party (RJP)—parties launched by former panchas after legalization of banned political arties before 1990—will be held in the capital for three days beginning 8 May to push unity and merger.
A joint working committee of the parties took the decision to push unity which has been delayed with internal differences manly between RPP Chairman Pashupati Shumshere Rana and RJP Charman and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.
The two parties of former royalists that now support a republic split 13 March 2005 when Thapa was prime minister during royal rule.
Thapa resisted party effort to reign in the government.
The parties have held discussions on unity at joint district-conventions in all districts.
Two-member central secretariat with RPP leader Deepak Bohara and RJP leader Parshuram Khapung, has been formed by the working group for preparations and coordination working under direction of Rana and Thapa.
Rajeswor Devkota said talks for unity with RPP-Nepal didn’t make headway with RPP-Nepal unwilling to abandon support for constitutional monarchy while opposing federalism.
