NEPAL ARMY MONEY RECOVERED FROM BANK
UNDER LIQUIDATION

Kathmandu, 14 Feb.: Altogether Rs.176.38 million of Nepal
Army (NA) in deposit and interest with Nepal Development Bank under liquidation has been recovered, the Public Relations Directorate
of NA said.
Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) will recover Rs.193.7 million from the development bank.

CULLING COMPLETE IN JHAPA

Kathmandu, 14 Feb:. Culling of birds, including chicken, was
completed late Monday afternoon by a rapid response team at three places in the eastern district bordering the Indian state of West Bengal.
Bird flu appeared for the first time n 2012 and
spread there from neighbouring Sunsari and Ilam.

THREE FORMER NEPAL POLICE IGPs CONVICTED OF CORRPUPTION CHARGE IN SUDAN SCAM

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.: A three-bench special court Monday
convicted thee former IGPs of Nepal Police Om Bikram Rana, Hem Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh Chand Thakuri to two-year prison
terms each along with Sunday along with fines for their
involvement in a Rs.280 million purchase scam .
Two contractors—one British--were also convicted of
corruption charges for selling faulty armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to Nepal Police.
The court cleared 31 senior police officers charged in the scam
for the purchase of (APCs) for Nepal Police peacekeepers deployed with the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, Sudan, endangering their
lives.
Rana and Gurung were charged after they retired while Thakuri was charged in office and suspected.
The verdict can be appealed at the supreme court within 35 days.
Rana was slapped a fine of Rs.170 million, Gurung Rs.64.8 million and Thakuri Rs.48.5 million.
Rana stuck the deal with UK-based company Assured Risks Company whose director Micheal Rider and local agent Shambhu Bharati were slaped prison sentences and fines.
Rider ignored summons of the special court.
Controversial Bangladeshi national Rubel Chandhary and son—in –law of Sujata Koirala thought to have secured the deal for the British company through his influence slipped out of the country when Maoists were in control of the home ministry.
Amid suspicions, Chaudhary slipped out of the country even as he was on the police watch list.

MAOISTS OBSERVE 17TH ANNIVERSARY OF PEOPLE’S WAR

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.: Maoists are observing Monday as the 17th anniversary of the people’s war and 11th establishment day of People’s
Liberation Army (PLA).
Chairman Prachanda and First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidyha are addressing a public meet at the Open Air Thatre to mark the
anniversaries.
Other senior party leaders , including Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai,have been deputed to address meetings outside the Valley.
Maoists have replaced NC as the biggest political party after joining the political mainstream.

Bengal Monday after bird flu the epidemic spread there from Sunsari and

MAOISTS TO OPPOSE PASSAGE OF 3 BILLS

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.: A meeting of the Maoist parliamentary
Party ahead of Monday’s full legislative session decided not to approve three controversial bills—an extradition bill, mutual legal assistance bill and bill against organized crime.
The UCPN (Maoist) said threat of international financial sanctions for no t helping to fight international money laundering was ‘psychological pressure’ on Nepal which only NN security council could impost and not other bodies.
Speaker Subash Nemanng told President Dr. Ram Barav Yadav earlier Nepal faced possible blacklisting by several international bodies if
three bills in parliament weren’t adopted by parliament Monday.by
adopting a shortened procedure.
Maoists opposed the adoption of the shortened procedure.
With the Maoist decision, government will only table the bills in
parliament Monday.
Hard-line Mohan Baidya faction in the party heading the government with a front of Madeshsbadi parties opposes the passage of bills.
The extradition and mutual legal assistance treaties had been negotiated by previous governments with India but weren’t approved by the legislature.

REMAND OF SUSPENDED DIG RANJAN KOIRALA EXTENDED

Kathmandu, 13 Feb. Judicial remand of suspended DIG Raaanjan KOirala was extended by Kathmandu district court a further four days Sunday to prepare murder charge against him
The remand of his female companion Tara Regmi was also extended four days. She’s also being charged for complicity in the murder of Gita, Koirala’s estranged wife.
The senior police officer completed three foreign assignments in service and kept his earnings in the his wife’s name.

NT RECORDS IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.: Nepal Doorsanchar Company Ltd (NT) earned a net profit of Rs. 6,776.107 million after tax in the first six months of the current fiscal year ending 14 January, a company announcement said.
The wholly-owned state enterprise earned a Rs. 5,777.784 million in
the corresponding period the previous year.

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.: A front of Madeshbadi parties in the government of Baburam Bhattarai has come out in favour of a national consensus government headed by the incumbent government chief who is second Maoist vice-chairman.
The strategy of the front is to support the Bhattarai government to gain maximum regional demands like mass induction of terai youith in Nepal Army (NA) and even distribution of naturalized citizenship in the souith adjoining India with which Nepal has an open border and movement of people in free.
Support for Bhattarai comes at a time when a hand-line faction of
First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya is demanding the immediate resignation of Bhattarai and his replace by a government of national consensus.
Before Bhattarai’s resignation, the incumbent premier’s supporters are demanding an alternative government should be ready to takeover administration.

FORMER KING RETRUNS HOME

Kathmandu, 13 Feb.; Former King Gyanendra returned Sunday night
at 10 after a month-long stay in India, Tarun reports.
In New Delhi, he has luncheon meetings with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Ganhi.
He also held discussions with Finance Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Anthony—considered senior ministers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The statement of Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad was a message to supporters of monarchy, the former king’s month-long India stay wasn’t fruitless.
Prasad said three are three forces in Nepal—supporters of monarchy, democracy and Maoists.
He called for cooperation between these forces for peace and
constitution.

22 ARTISTS SUFFER DIARRHEA AFTER DRINKING
