Inaugurating the tenth convention of the UML Kathmandu Constituency No. 5 on Saturday, UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel said the party will be stronger only if the party cadres were able to assimilate people's problems.

Pokhrel said the UML was committed to writing the constitution in favor of people by concluding the ongoing peace process.

Also speaking at the program, UML lawmaker Ratna Gurung said the UML was thriving in between the Maoist's ultra-leftist and Nepali Congress's status-quoist ideologies.

SEVEN KILLED IN SEPARATE ROAD ACCIDENTS IN THE EAST
Kathmandu, 11 Feb.: At least seven persons died and four others were seriously injured in separate road accidents in eastern region of the country on Friday, RSS reports from Itahari.

According to the Eastern Regional Traffic Police Office, Itahari, three persons were killed when a truck (Ko 1 Kha 1578) hit a motorcycle along the Urlabari-Sijuwa road section in Morang district. Next one was seriously hurt in the incident.

Khem Dhakal and Shankar Chaudhary of Itahari died on the spot while injured Shatrughan Sah died on the way to Biratnagar for treatment. Injured Laxman Khadka is undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar, said Traffic Police.

Similarly, Uday Rajbansi, 5, son of Punya Prasad Rajbansi of Mechinagar Municipality-11 of Jhapa district died while a bus (Me 1 Kha 902) hit him.

Likewise, Samjhana Rai (21) of Topgachhi, Jhapa, who was undergoing treatment after sustaining serious injuries in a separate road accident, died last night. A motorbike (Ko 10 Pa 9258) had hit her.

In a separate road accident in Siraha, Sarita Sah (10) died after a motorcycle (Sa 2 Pa 5722) hit her near Prayapur of Siraha district.

Similarly, helper of a jeep (Ko 1 Cha 4365) died after the same jeep hit him at Manebhanjyang in Chichila of Sankhuwasabha district. Hangjeet (15) of Tilpati-7, Sankhuwasabha died on the spot after the incident.

CHEQUE DISTRIBUTION COMPLETED FOR FORMER PLA FIGHTERS IN ILAM
Kathmandu, 11 Feb.: The cheque distribution to the ex-PLA combatants opting for voluntary retirement in Chulachuli of Ilam district has been concluded on Saturday, RSS reports from Bhadrapur..

A total of 701 among the 721 ex-PLA combatants opting for voluntary retirement received the cheque, said Shambhuram Simkhada, member of secretariat of army integration special committee.

According to Simkhada, 289 from First Division, 137 from satellite camp of Danabari Ilam, 135 from Yangsila Camp of Morang and 140 ex-PLA combatants of Tandi camp received the cheques.

The ex-combatants have been provided with Rs 180 million through cheques and Rs 3.4 million travel allowances.
