FIRST SOUTH ASIAN ARMY MEET 2012 CONCLUDES
Kathmandu, 14 March: The First South Asian Army Meet 2012 organized body Nepal Army (NA) concluded Wednesday.
The competition was political event as well reflecting Nepal’s now good relations with armies of member states of the South Asian region.
Armies of rivals India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh participated in
friendly fashion attempting to promote goodwill in a tense region.
War-torn Afghanistan. Maldives and Bhutan didn’t participate.
Army Chief Chhatra Man Singh Gurung distributed medals and certificates.
Wednesday in neighbouring Laitpur at an army facility.
Nepal defeated India 1-0 in a football final.
India defeated Pakistan in the volleyball tournament.
Altogether 193 players participated that began 9 March.

NC PRESIDENT ALERTED BY AMNESTY FOR PERSONS CHARGED FOR CRIMES
Kathmandu, 14 March: NC President Sushil Koirala was alerted Wednesday by representatives of rights bodies and civil society to a government decision to amnesty more than 360 persons against whom criminal charges were pending in courts.
Cases registered by previous governments were withdrawn by the Maoist-led government this month.
Koirala said NC doesn’t support the government move.
