DETAILS OF UN CHIEF VISIT
Kathmandu, 9 March: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will attend an international conference on the development of Lumbini one day after arriving for a two-day visit 28 April.
Details of the visit are being worked out.
Maoist Chairman Prachanda invited the UN chief to visit Nepal for the development of th birthplace of The Buddha launched by devout Buddhist and late Secretary
General of Burma U Thant.
Neighbouring India’s concerns have been raised following the interest shown by a Chinese INGO for Lumbini’s development on the open Indo-Nepal border.

FIRST SOUTH ASIAN ARMSPORTS MEET LANCHED IN FRIENDLY NEPAL
Kathmandu, 9 March: Nepal;s Army Chief Gen. Chatraman Singh Gurung Friday launched the first six-day South Asian Army Sports Meet 2012 Friday in Lalitpu, the Nepali capital’s neighbouring town.
The competition is being held at an army facility in the ancient
capital’s neighbouring town
Armies from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are participating form the eight-nation South Asian regional body.
War-torn Afghanistan, Maldives and Bhutan haven’t sent
contingents.
Besides helping to demonstrate the sporting talents of soldiers from the competing nations of the region, the games is an effort to promote goodwill
among some hostile neighbours, India and Pakistan, who have developed nuclear capability.
India dominated the games on the opening day.
Altogether competitor s are competing in six disciplines.
Nepal has friendly ties with all South Asian participating states
