FOREIGN MINSTER SHRESTHA ATTEMPTS TO SAVE TOURISM
MINISTER OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY IN VISA FIASCO
Kathmandu, 12 March; Foreign Minister Narayan Kazi Shrestha, who is also
Deputy prime minster, Monday attempted to clear his colleague Tourism
Minister Lokendra Bista of any responsibility on a visa fiasco that brought shame to the country, created suspicions around the minister and embarrassed him personally.
Immigration authorities at Abu Dhabi airport questioned the minister for travelling to Germany without a visa and didn’t let him out of the airport complex luntil themstake was rectified in two days.
“Normally, he should have looked. It would have been good had he checked, Bt he didn’t,” Shrestha said in rely to a question by Naya Patrika; Shouldn’t the minister have checked if he passport was stamped with a visa?’
It’s almost like saying I didn’t know the contents in a body or baggage check at airports.
The minister’s wife was carrying a passport with a visa.
How busy was the minister not to check his passport?
Effort his being made to make officials scapegoat.
”He should have given responsibility to his associates to arrange technical matters,”in a veiled attempt to blame responsibility on the minister.
‘Associates are given such responsibility,” Shrestha added.
What sort of assistant did the minister choose—a person who didn’t know the
difference between the foreign ministry recommendation for a visa to the
German embassy and a visa itself?
Isn’t the minster responsible for appointing such associated?
A lot of questions are still unanswered by the Shrestha interview.
