TOP LEADERS MAKE ERESH PROMISE
Kathmandu, 3 March: Top leaders of major three parties Friday vowed to strike agreement soon and conclude the remaining tasks of peace and constitution building process in time, The Rising Nepal repots from Dhading..
UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal made this fresh promise addressing Dhading Agricultural, Tourism and Industrial Festival-2068 here at Pida Village Development Committee of Dhading district.
Despite their assurances, the top guns did not hesitate to spell out conditions to keep their words. Unsurprisingly, Prachanda pointed out the need to address mutual mistrust whereas Koirala asked the Maoists, as the largest party, to create conducive environment to complete peace and constitution building process. UML leader Nepal pointed out the need of a decisive dialogue.
"Peace process will be concluded within a few days," Prachanda said, "Our party is always committed to concluding peace and constitution writing processes."
He said Nepali leaders’ capacity to maintain friendly relations despite differences among them would result in success of the historic process. "In some European countries, the leaders have so sour relations that they do not even speak to each other because of their differences on various issues. The situation is different here."
The chief of the main ruling party said once the leaders found means to address each others’ partisan apprehension and mistrust, all the outstanding differences would fade away.
NC president Koirala said the Maoists, as the largest party, had the main responsibility to conclude peace and constitution writing processes and urged chief of that party, Prachanda, to create a trustful environment for the same.
UML senior leader Nepal stressed top leaders needed to sit for conclusive dialogue. "If we sit in a room and carry on dialogue for 3 to 7 days without any intervals or interruption, we will be able to settle all the disputed issues related to peace and constitution."
He said political stability will pave the way for economic prosperity.
Meanwhile, state restructuring should be carried out on the basis of topography, climate, and resources rather than on the basis of ethnicity.
Participants at an interaction on State Restructuring and Role of Women organised on the occasion of the 102nd International Women’s Day by the All Nepal Women’s Association in the Capital today suggested that the state restructuring on the basis of geography and resources was the better alternative.
