PEACE PROCESS PRIORITY OF NC OVER CONSTITUTION SAYS SUSHIL KOIRALA
Kathmandu, 22 March:: President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala has said that the bone of contention in peace process has hindered the overall political development though the NC was in favor of promulgating the new constitution in time by taking the ongoing peace process to its logical end, RSS reports.
"New constitution will not be promulgated until peace process is completed," Koirala told journalists at his residence at Maharajgunj in the capital after receiving a memorandum submitted by Nepal Jaycees.
Office-bearers of the Nepal Jaycees submitted the memorandum to NC chief to pile pressure on NC leaders for timely constitution.
Officials of Jaycees have already submitted the memorandum for the same cause to the Maoist and CPN-UML leaders.
Koirala said, "Peace process should be completed first. Consensus will be forged in contentious issues of statute writing only after that."
The UCPN-Maoist should show concern to implement the agreements signed in the past, he added. President Koirala also claimed that the contentious issues of constitution writing will be resolved if Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Maoist party implemented the past agreements.
Also speaking on the occasion, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel said disputed issues of constitution should be finalised based on consensus signed in the peace process.
