DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Kathmandu, 3 March : Krishna Prasad Bhattarai is being remembered on his first death anniversary Saturday.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is inaugurating a photo exhibition depicting his life at The Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Academy in Bade Gaon in Lalitpur
Bhattarai was the only surviving founding member of Nepali
Congress (NC) when he died ; Maoists defeated NC in constituent assembly/parliamentary elections more than four years ago.
He was speaker of Nepal’s first elected parliament in 1959 and was
also party president.
NC has now been reduced to status of the main opposition.
No programme is being held to remember Bhattarai who quit the party after NC adopted a republican agenda under Girija Prasad Koirala who led the party to electoral victory two times after party politics was legalized in 1990.
But Koirala twice pulled down the Bhattarai government; communists have emerged as the biggest force in national politics.
UCPN Maoist is the biggest party and CPN-UML the third largest.
Saturday is also the first death anniversary of author Daimond
Shumshere Rana.

FATHER, DAUGHTER KILLED IN GAS LEAK

Kathmandu, 3 March: A father and daughter were killed Friday evening in in a fire in their narrow house at Ina Tole near Hanumandhoka of Kathmandu on Friday evening.
The fire was ignited after a gas leak through a regulator.
The fire broke out at around 7:15 OM in the evening.
Krishna Shrestha,55, and Sangeeta Shahi,22, of Nawalparasi had rented rooms in the house.

in the capital Saturday morning was 5.8 degrees Celsius.
