SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETS SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 1 April: A special committee for integration and supervision of former Maoist fighters headed by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai meets Sunday to discuss integration and voluntary retirement and related issues
The committee couldn’t complete discussions on agenda items at Friday’s breakthrough meeting,
Sunday’s meeting will discuss the integration of 6,500 combatants in Nepal
Army (NA), voluntary retirement of former PLA fighters and handover of Maoist
containerized weapons in remaining 15 cantonments and satellite camps by 12 April ahead of a 27 May headline to complete peace and a constitution.
The 9,900 plus Maoist fighters in camps will be given a second opportunity to
decide between integration and voluntary retirement; there are only 6,500 opening for fighters in NA.
All the 15 cantonments and camps have now to be vacated by 12 April for
handover to NA.

SUSHIL KOIRALA ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE PARTY DISPUTE

Kathmandu, 1 April: NC President Suhsil Koirala has formed a three-member
paned headed by Vice-chairman and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel
to resolve an intra-party dispute over control of Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), the party’s student wing.
Two other members of the committee are General Secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Shitaula, both from the establishment faction.
The latest dispute in the NSU flared up after the establishment faction of the party formed a 101-member ‘jumbo’ committee to conduct a general convention and hold union elections.
Twenty-eight loyalists f senior arty leader and former Prime Minister Sher
Bahadur Deuba protested the formation and withdrew from the committee.
Another Koirala loyal group demanded immediate elections.
Deuba vehemently opposed Koirala’s decision to dissolve elected bodies
governing four fraternal organizations, including NSU, after their tenure ended charging the president for ‘dictatorial’ activities to dismiss elected bodies.

TWO CHILDREN BURNT TO DEATH

Kathmandu, 1 April: Two children aged 11 and seven years were burnt to death
Saturday when a cowshed stacked with hay in which they were playing caught fire at Lishanghu-9
in Sindhupalchowk Saturday..
The boy and girl were alone in the cowshed and carrying a lighter.
