TEACHERS WITHDRAW STRIKE; SCHOOLS TO REOPEN MONDAY UPDATE

Kathmandu, 11 March: Striking teachers Sunday withdrew their protests hours
after it began and affected 7.8 million students some of them preparing for SLC examinations later this month.
The protest was withdrawn after teachers’ talks with education ministry officials.
Schools that remained closed will reopen Monday after a day’s closure.
Two sides agreed to continue talks for a resolution of 47 demands of teachers.
Education Minister Dinanath Sharma said a fast track approach will be taken to amend an education to meet teacher demands.
Besides the education inister,chief whips of major parties Agni Sapkota of UCPN (Maoist), Laxman Ghimire of NN and Bhim Acharya of UML-signed the agreement.

ENERGY MINISTER WARNS FOREIGN INVESTMENTS WILL NEVER

Kathmandu, 11 March: Energy Minster Post Bahadur Bogati Sunday warned ‘big foreign investment will never come to Nepal’
after a parliamentary committee intervened and asked government not to go ahead and implement a 750MW West Seti Hydro Power project with Chinese investment.
The government this month signed an agreement giving the Chinese company 75 percent majority stake in the company to develop the project.
Minister Bogati denied Nepali interests were sold out.
“Nepal got maximum benefit,” he said and added a ‘fast approach’ was taken to
sign the agreement for the project.
“Relations with another neighbour has been spoilt,” said NC former water resources minister Prakash Sharan Mahat.
