ATTEMPTED MASS MURDER OF FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS BY DOUSING PETROL FOR DOWRY Kathmandu, 23 April: A youth has attempted to kill his second wife, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law by pouring petrol on their bodies saying he was not offered sufficient dowry as per his demand in the wedding ceremony, RSS reports from Saptari. Mohammad Iliyas, 35, of Mohanpur of Saharasi district, India, attempted to murder his in-laws including his wife Hasina Khatun, 30, while visiting in-laws’ families at Rajbiraj Municipality-2 in Saptari district last night. All five members have sustained serious burn injuries in the incident. Police said the injured are receiving treatment at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj. Iliyas had set fire by pouring petrol on the bodies of his in-laws and in front of the house as well at 11 pm while all were sleeping. Khatun said she was meted out physical torture frequently for her failure to bring dowry in her marriage and was living in her parents’ house. Police has arrested the alleged from Tilathi, the bordering area of Nepal-India in Saptari district. nnnn GOVT.LIKELY TO EXPEDITE CONSTRUCTION OF WEST SETI Kathmandu, 23 April: The government is likely to expedite the construction works of the much awaited West Seti Hydropower Project after the approval of the legislature-parliament committee on natural resources to forward the construction of the project, RSS reports. Minister for Energy Posta Bahadur Bogati told RSS, "We will expedite the construction works of the project at the earliest based on public private concept." Earlier, the Ministry of Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China three Gorges International Corporation to construct the project based on the public private concept. The Ministry is planning to approve the deal signed with the Three Gorges from the Council of Ministers. Once the deal was passed from the cabinet, all hassles will be cleared for the construction of the 750 MW project. Minister Bogati expressed commitment to make the project a success saying that this project is linked to the government's prestige. "The government will abide the suggestions and directives given by the committee on natural resources." As per the agreement, Nepal Electricity Authority is to invest minimum 25 per cent in share while the Chinese company will invest 75 per cent. Estimated cost of the project is around Rs 120 billion. Nnnn INTEGRATION PAVED WAY FOR CONSTITUTION CLAIMS ESTABLISHMENT MAOIST Kathmandu, 23 April: UCPN-Maoist Politburo member Haribol Gajurel has said that decision made by the Maoist party regarding army integration has paved the way for the drafting of the new constitution within May 27, RSS reports from Inaruwa. At a news conference organised by the Revolutionary Journalists' Association in Itahari today, Gajurel said that bold decision made by the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on April 10 has excited the Nepali people. He added that the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML will be responsible if the constitution was not written in time. Recalling former prime minister late Girija Prasad Koirala, Gajurel, who is also In-charge of the Maoist's Kochila State Committee, said that country has lacked a personality like Koirala for taking bold decisions if necessary. He further said that those disturbing crucial works done in decisive moment will be sidelined by people. On the occasion, Maoist central committee member and personal secretary of the prime minister, Ganga Shrestha claimed that Bhattarai-led government will conclude the peace process. nnnn
