RULING PARTIES, OPPOSITION NC, UML TALK CONSTITUTION WITH BAIDHAYA
Kathmandu, 15 April: Maoist dissident group leaders First
Vice-chairman Mohan Baidhaya and Deb Gurung are huddled in
talks with members of the ruling coalition and opposition NC and UML to discuss resolving differences on articles of a proposed constitution that
has to be promulgated by 27 May.
The major parties represented in parliament are holding discussions
at Hattiban Resort in Lalitpur to resolve differences on a
constitution that has to be resolved by Tuesday.
The parties agreed to the deadline after failing in six extensions spread over months.
Should the parties fail Sunday, articles in constitution will have
To be approved by two-third majority vote in the constituent assembly(CA) under terms of an interim constitution.
The Big Three don’t have a two-third majority in parliament.
Parties have agreed to amend the constitution to avoid the extended constitutional process.
Parties have a compulsion this time around to promulgate a basic law after supreme court ruled a constitution can’t again be extended after 27 May.
