BRITISH ACTRESS LUMLEY ARRIVES AS BRITISH EMBASSY GUEST THIS TIME TO HELP BRITISH GURKHA CAUSE
E Kathmandu, 16 April:16: Vice-Patron of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, Joanna Lumley has arrived here on Monday to take part in activities of the Fund in Nepal, RSS reports.
According to the British Embassy in Nepal, Lumley will open a school, built under the Trust´s supervision, in the Western Hill.
The school was built to the memory of Captain Michael Allmand VC, Honorary Lieutenant Tul Bahadur Pun VC and her father James Lumley.
The Gurkha Welfare Trust, a charity funded largely by public subscription in the UK, spends some NRs 10 billion per annum in Nepal. Its work includes individual aid, community aid and medical support and helps retired British Gurkhas, their families and communities.

COLLABORATION URGED TO PROTECT WILDLIFE
Kathmandu, 16 April: In the programme organized on the occasion of the 17th Wildlife Week-2012 on Monday, speakers stressed collaboration among government, NGOs and concerned bodies for wildlife protection, RSS reports.
The 17th Wildlife Week-2012 is being celebrated with the slogan- 'Coalition for curbing illegal wildlife trade.'
In an interaction programme organized by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Department of Forests, Federation of Community Forest Users' Committees of Nepal and organizations that work for the conservation of wildlife, speakers urged on paying attention to the sensitivity of wildlife while cutting and collecting firewood, quarrying pebbles and sand, among others to minimize causing obstructions in different activities of wildlife.
They said that there was need of common efforts for wildlife protection.
Secretary at the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation Nabin Kumar Ghimire said it is the primary responsibility to work at the policy level for the protection of wildlife fruitful and result-oriented.
Director General at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Reserve, Krishna Prasad Acharya believed that the celebration of the Wildlife Week would help further in the sustainable management of the forest areas outside the protected areas, the lease-hold forests, the community forests and private and partnership forests.
Director General of the Department of Forests, Braj Kishor Yadav, presenting a working paper on the problems and challenges of wildlife protection, underlined the need of concerted efforts from all sides for wildlife protection.
On the occasion, president of the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) Laxman Uprety urged the bodies working for the protection and management of wildlife to make collaboration with the media.
Chairperson of the Federation of Community Forest Users' Committees of Nepal (FECOFUN), Apsara Chapagain, called on the government to formulate effective laws in view of the challenges of wildlife conservation.
