Kathmandu, 10 April: Maoists and government led by Maoists decided to put fighters, cantonments and Maoist weapons under Nepal Army watch without ageeng of technicalities of integration that had delayed previous meetings.
The next meeting of the special committee will take up technicalities like rank of fighters, structure of a directorate in army, training for inducted fighters and other
related issues.
Obviously, Maoist establishment and government have been pushed
into a decision which would have been delayed in Tuesday’s scheduled meeting of the special committee.
A code of conduct for fighters under the army will be immediately developed by coordinator Balananda Sharma of a secretariat under the special committee.
The 9,900 fighters still have option for voluntary retirement.
Only 6,500 former fighters were to join the army with the remaining going
for voluntary retirement.
The desire of fighters for retirement and their farewell with a golden
handshake couldn’t take place Tuesday with the fast developments.
Fear reigned supreme in the party establishment and government camps.

parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
Another opposition leader Madhav Kumar Nepal of UML said: Way ahead has been made easy.
