AFRICAN UNITED ENTERS FINAL OF BIRAT FOOTBALL GOLD CUP TOURNAMENT

Kathmandu, 5 April: African United Thursday defeated Three Star Club 5-4 in extended time in the Birat Gold Cup Football Tournament in Biratnagar to enter the final.
African United will play Himalayan Sherpa in the final.

LOKDARSHAN BAJRACHARYA, CHIEF PERSONAL SECRETARY OF KING MAHENDRA, DEAD

Kathmandu, 5 April: Buddhist Scholar Lokdarshan Bajracharya passed away at Norvic International Hospital, Kathmandu, on Thursday morning, RSS reports.
He was 81.
Bajracharya had served as the Chief Personal Secretary of the then King Mahendra Shah during 1951 to 1959. He had played special role in the infrastructure development of Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha.
He had also served as the Chairman of the Lumbini Development Committee for around 10 years since 1976 to 1985.
Bajracharya was also associated to the Dharmodaya Shabha and International Brotherhood Mission including other national and international organisations.
He is survived by a wife, a son and a daughter. His last rites will be performed according to Buddhist tradition at Shobha Bhagawati, tomorrow (Friday).

MAOIST SECRETARY ALLEGES ‘CONSPIRACY’ TO REVINE 1990 CONSTITUTION
Kathmandu, 5 April: Secretary of the UCPN-Maoist, CP Gajurel, on Thursday has said that conspiracies are being hatched to declare the constitution of 1990 by replacing the monarchy with republic, RSS reports.

Speaking in a face to face programme here today, Gajurel alleged the leaders of the political parties of neglecting the agreed agenda of constitution writing.

He said a copy of the constitution has been readied with the help of the political parties and the foreign countries and the political parties were only waiting for an appropriate environment for declaring the same.

Stating that the faction in the UCPN-Maoist led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has been opposing this move and also conducting pressure campaign, he stressed that the new constitution should take into account the welfare of the women, the indigenous nationalities, the marginalised communities and the Madhesis.

He warned that the constitution devoid of these features would not be acceptable.

Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal, CPN-UML leader Pradip Gyawali, leader of the Sadbhavana Party, Laxman Lal Karna and leader Jitendra Sonal of the Madhesi Front underlined the need for unity among the parties for the timely promulgation of the new constitution.
