FURTHER DETAILS OF ACTOR MEENAKSHI THAPA MURDER
Kathmandu, 19 April: The brutal murder case of an aspiring Bollywood actress of Nepali origin has finally been cracked with the police succeeding in arresting the masterminds, Mahesh Acharya writes in The Kathmandu Post from New Delhi.
One Amit Kumar Jaiswal and his lover Preeti Alvira Surin were arrested in Mumbai earlier this week in connection with the gruesome murder of 26-year-old Meenakshi Thapa--a small-time actress from Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Jaiswal and Surin were advocates-turned-junior artistes from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh state who befriended Thapa on the sets of a Bollywood film. The duo admitted that they had kidnapped Thapa for ransom and beheaded her last month after the extortion attempt failed, an officer of the Mumbai police told the Post over telephone.
The duo lured Thapa to Allahabad under the pretext of shooting for a Bhojpuri film and got her ATM and mobile SIM cards after killing her in Gorkahpur, Indian media reported. The accused told the police that they believed Thapa was from an affluent Nepali family and hence hatched the conspiracy to kidnap her for a ransom of Rs 15 lakh Indian rupees, according to Inspector of the Mumbai Crime Branch Sanjay Satardekar. But in reality she was a dancer in Dehradun and her father of Nepali origin was working with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited in Uttarakhand, while her brother served in the Indian Army.
In another development in the case, the police on Wednesday recovered Thapa's decapitated body parts from a septic tank behind Surin's house in Allahabad. The parts have been sent for post-mortem. Police are, however, looking for Thapa's head which is believed to be thrown away by the accused on their way back from Allahabad to Mumbai.
Thapa had started her career in Bollywood with small roles in films like 'Saher' and '404'. She has also perfomred a small role in Madhur Bhandarkar's upcoming flick 'Heroine'.
