NO COMPROMISE ON PEACE, CONSTITUTION SAYS MAOIST CHIEF

NO COMPROMISE ON PEACE, STATUTE

Kathmandu, 2 April2: UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said no compromises would be made with anyone on the issue of peace and
Constitution, RSS reports.
Speaking in a training organized for the cadres of the Newa State Committee of the party on Monday, he said the faction in the party that is against taking the peace and constitution to logical conclusion does not have any notable place in the party and underlined the need for waging a struggle against those elements.

The Maoist chairman said since the peace process was headed towards conclusion and the works related to constitution writing have also reached the final stages, the protest by the Mohan Baidya faction in the party would hold no water.

Stating that works concerning the integration of combatants would proceed towards completion beginning today, he said from tomorrow on they would vigorously work for the constitution writing. He added that the internal ideological dispute of the party would be resolved through mutual understanding.

More than 400 cadres of the Newa State Committee are attending the

KAMAL THAPA ASKS THREE KEY FORCES TO UNITE
Kathmandu, 2 April: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N), Kamal Thapa, has said political outlet would not be possible until the three key political forces in the country were united, RSS reports from Chitwan..

Talking to media persons on Monday, he said the present political impasse could be brought to an end through talks and political consensus among the leftist, parliamentary, and patriotic forces.

He stressed on making a constitution that can address the aspirations of the people and also urged the political parties to hold talks with former king Gyanendra Shah rather than only making unnecessary comments about him.

"I have suggested Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to take and share the experiences of 240-year monarchic system with the former king rather than only criticizing Shah´s activities in the present transition," said Thapa.

The RPP-N chairman said extensive talks were necessary among all the political forces to take the peace process to its logical conclusion and to promulgate the new constitution.

In a different context, Thapa said the constitution of 1990 could be an alternative to fill in the constitutional vacuum if the Constituent Assembly failed to promulgate the new constitution within May 27. He added that the monarchial democracy is the best option for the country.

MAOIST TRADE UNION SIT-IN IN FRONT OF NEPAL’S LARGEST
CIGARETTE FACTORY WITH INDIAN INVESTMENT
Kathmandu, 2 April: The Nepal Multinational Companies Workers Union (NMCWC) at Surya Nepal staged an hour-long sit-in on Sunday despite the Hetauda Appellate Court’s stay order against the planned demo.
Workers belonging to the Maoist-affiliated trade union staged the protest from 9-10 am at the country’s largest cigarette factory. They chanted slogans against the management for “not listening” to their demands. They have been agitating for the last few months demanding that the management fulfil their 11-point demand which includes a Rs 2,000 raise, an extra allowance of Rs 1,000 and gratuity of Rs 500,000.
The union had threatened to shut down the factory from Monday if the management didn’t fulfil their demands. Fearing a closure of the factory, the management went to court which issued a stay order preventing the workers from stopping operations pending a final decision and scheduled a hearing for April 5. NMCWC spokesperson Indranath Tiwari said that they had staged the sit-in for just 10 minutes to draw the management’s attention to their demands. “Respecting the court’s order, we haven’t taken any strict move, and have allowed the factory to operate smoothly,” he added. However, the
management has termed the workers’ demand unjustified as they had already received a pay hike of 57 percent over the last two years. “They have to ask themselves internally if their demands are genuine,” said Ravi KC, corporate vice-president of
Surya Nepal.
