UPDATE POLICE INTERVENE TO DISRUPT TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION AGAINST PRACHANDA AND PM

Kathmandu, 11 April: Police intervened and attempted to disperse Wednesday a torchlight procession of dissident Maoists from Bhugol Park against Tuesday’s
party and special committee sudden decision to handover cantonments housing 9,900 former rebel fighters to Nepal Army (NA).
General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa led the procession as effigies of
Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Babura Bhattarai, a party vice-chairman,
were burnt calling the two establishment leaders “ lal gaddars’.
NA troops were deployed Tuesday evening to give protection to fighters and
their containerized weapons calling the move a ‘surrender’
The procession ended at Putali Sadak with a corner meeting
Meanwhile, the Maoist boss told a select group of journalists at his residence Wednesday Tuesday’s decision was a ‘bold decision’ and said the opposition by group
group supporting First Vice-chairman Mohan Badhya ‘has no meaning’.
Prachanda told reporters the ‘peace process has concluded’.
