CHITRA BAHADUR KC OPPOSES ETHNIC PROVINCE

Kathmandu, 16 April : Rastriya Janamorcha Chairperson Chitra Bahadur KC has said the constitution writing has been stalled when the political parties are enmeshed into the issue of federalism, RSS reports.

At an interaction programme organized here on Sunday by All Nepal Indigenous Caucus entitled ´Problem of Identity of Indigenous Nationalities in Nepal´, leader KC warned that the country would get disintegrated if federalism based on ethnic identity was chosen.

He stressed the need to guarantee the constitution rights so that rights of all ethnic groups and communities would be established.

On the occasion, General Secretary of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Angkaji Sherpa underscored the urgency of federating the states based on identity so as to ensure the rights of indigenous nationalities, who have long been exploited and oppressed in the country.

Constitution with federalism based on identity will not be acceptable to them, he added.

Cheetri Samaj Chairperson Prof. Dr. Dil Bahadur Chhetri warned that existence of no ethnic groups will be safeguarded if the existence of Khas, Chhetri and Brahmin – the real indigenous castes of Nepal – was challenged.
