MAOIST LEADER CLOSE TO PARTY CHIEF SAYS OPPOSITION IN PARTY WON’T FFECT PEACE PROCESS
Kathmandu, 3 April:: At a time when the dissident faction of the Maoist have launched signature campaign against the party leadership and government, a senior leader has claimed that it wont affect the conclusion of the peace process, Reportersnepal.com reports.
Haribol Gajurel, a politburo member and a close aide of party Chairman Prachanda, said that the protest programs launched by the dissident Baidya faction won’t affect the conclusion of the army integration and constitution writing process.
Gajurel expressed hope to resolve all inter-party conflicts within some days and chart out future working plans for the party within some days while speaking at an interaction program held by the Reporter's Club Nepal in the capital on Tuesday.
Stating that the party would not split at any cost, he however said that it would be much regrettable if the party split at such a crucial and historical transitional juncture.
In a different context, he said the obstruction created by the CPN-UML on army integration when the Maoist Chairman and the Prime Minister were showing flexibility was a backward-gearing in peace process.
Stating that the UML was taking revenge on Bhattarai’s government by stagnating the peace process, he defended the latters’ accusation claiming “Bhattarai’s government has brought the peace process to this stage. Despite internal controversies, both Bhattarai and Prachanda have shown utter flexibility in concluding both processes,” adding that such activities justified that the government is positive towards concluding the peace process.
UML leader Bhim Rawal accused the PM of bringing UML into controversy to fulfill his personal desire to retain power.
“When he took over as the PM, Bhattarai had promised to conclude the peace process within forty five days. Presently he is extending the conclusion of the peace process to retain his post,” said Rawal.
He accused the PM of planning to extend the peace process so as to maintain his tenure in Baluwatar. “The PM flayed UML as a protestor as we confronted his action plan that has deviated from the seven point deal. He intends to stick to his chair by tarnishing UML’s image.”
Rawal opined that Bhattarai has shown reluctance to discuss the action plan of the Army Integration Secretariat and move ahead in the spirit of the seven-point agreement, just to obstruct the peace process.
Rawal said that his party has expressed reservations on the action plan tabled by the Secretariat because it was coming skipping regular procedures.
While appreciating Prachanda’s attitude towards the action plan, he flayed the PM for hesitating in coming clear on the action plan. He made it clear that UML won’t turn back, if the action plan fully follows the seven point agreement.
