VITAMIN A BEING DISTRIBUTED NATION-WIDE WEDNESDAY TO CHILDREN
Kathmandu, 18 April: : At the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Population, national Vitamin A programme is beginning nationwide from tomorrow [Wednesday], RSS reports..
Under the programme, some 3.3 million children in age group ranging from six months to five years across the country will be administered with the Vitamin A capsules, according to the Ministry.
Similarly, of them, some 3 million people (one to five years of age) will be administered with the deworming tablets also.
The two-day programme will be launched simultaneously in all the 75 districts across the country.
According to the ministry, all necessary arrangements have been made for operating the programme from respective district health offices, public health offices, health posts, sub health posts and the local health centres with the help of local women health volunteers.
The Ministry has been running the national Vitamin A program since 2050 BS under its regular calendar with a view to reducing the child mortality rate caused by vitamin A deficiency and controlling other eye-related diseases including night blindness.
A study conducted by the UNICEF shows that the Vitamin A programme in Nepal has saved around 12,000 children from facing untimely death every year.

INSTITUTIONALIZE DEMOCRACY SAYS PRESIDENT
Kathmandu, 18April: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has said the country would have bright future once we institutionalize democracy and republic, RSS reports.
Addressing a programme organized to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the Sahid Shukraraj Secondary School at Bagbazar in the capital on Tuesday, President Dr Yadav said the education sector could play a significant role to institutionalize democracy and republic.
The achievements made so far are as a result of the contribution of the martyrs, he said, adding that there were immense development prospects in Nepal with proper management of politics.
Wishing further progress to the School, President Dr Yadav expressed his belief that the School would be successful to produce honest, responsible, and moral human resource for the nation.
On the occasion, Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma pointed out the need for restructuring pedagogy with the promulgation of the new constitution in the country.
Minister Sharma said the government schools should be made competent in par with the private-run schools in order to boost up quality education.
At the programme, President Dr Yadav unveiled a golden jubilee stone scripture set up on the precincts of the School, and released a School souvenir titled Chandrakanta.
Chairman of the School Management Committee, Dal Bahadur Shrestha and Principal Manju Tuladhar presented the progress report of the School.
The School was named after martyr Shukraraj Shastri by his sister Chandrakanta in 2018 BS. Shastri attained martyrdom during the autocratic Rana regime before 2007 BS. RSS
