DETAILS OF CONTROVERSIAL PRACHANDA STATEMENT
Kathmandu, 14 May:
UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ Sunday appealed to all to take to the street peacefully against the recent protests and clashes across the country, The Rising Nepal reports.
Talking to the representatives of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) at his residence in Lazimpat, Prachanda said that the recent demonstrations were instigated by the anti-federalism forces.
"All suppressed people, workers, peasants and indigenous groups should take to the streets in a disciplined peaceful and sincere way to ensure their rights by foiling all the conspiracies of the anti-federalism forces," Prachanda said.
The Maoist chairman refuted the rumor that his party had given up its stance for an ethnic-based restructuring of the state. "It is ploy to sabotage the process of federalism," he said.
"Some forces are hatching conspiracy against the federalism by instigating the ethnic groups to clash each other," he said.
The unfair ruling system should come to an end and the Maoist party always stands for the new state power based on equality, Prachanda said.
Emphasizing that the decade long struggle, the 12-point agreement and the April Uprising and were waged for the federalism, he said that attempts were being made to transform the demands for the ethnic-based identity into a communal violence.
"If we do not protest against this conspiracy seriously, the feudal class people will foil the struggle of ethnic liberation though a communal violence," he said.
Clarifying that his party was about restructuring the state based on four things including class and gender, he said the party could not backtrack from its stance for federalism.
The process of making new Nepal would be initiated by institutionalizing federalism that was made possible through a massive sacrifice, he said.
According to him, earlier the anti-federalism forces took stance on army integration However, there was no any guarantee of the new constitution even two months after the integration process concluded, he said.
