24 INJURED IN FAR-WEST CLASHES Kathmandu, 9 May: At least 24 demonstrators were injured in a clash at Jhalari bazaar in Kanchanpur district that occurred last night between demonstrators of two groups, demanding undivided far west region and Tharuhat region, RSS reports from Mahendranagar. The injured are undergoing treatment at local clinics. Police said cadres of the Tharuhat vandalized shops at Jhalari bazaar and vandalized three parked motorcycles and window panes of more than six houses. Integrated Nepal Undivided Far-West Struggle Committee has demanded action against the group that vandalized the shops and also to the Superintendent of Police, Dilip Kumar Chaudhary, for taking no action to the irate gangs despite they vandalized a huge amount of property. Tension ran high at Jhalari area after the two sides hit the streets today. Nnnn US AMBASSADOR, SPEAKER DISCUSSIONS Kathmandu, 9 May: Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi called on CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal at the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Office today [Wednesday], RSS reports. During the meeting, the duo held talks on peace process, the latest stage of constitution making and contemporary politics. After the meeting, Ambassador DeLisi said he was hopeful that the constitution would be promulgated within May 27. He also said federalism will be as per the wishes of the Nepali people. nnnn LIGHTNING KILLS ONE , INJURES FIVE IN SINDHUPALCHOWK Kathmandu, 9 May:: Lightning accompanied by storm claimed a life at Piskar in Sindhupalchowk district last night, RSS reports from Chautara. The deceased has been identified as Surendra Thami, 17, of Piskar VDC-3, according to the District Police Office. The lightning killed him on the spot while he was going to maternal home in Ghumaunedanda. Some five people were also injured in the incident, said police. Police added that some cattle also died at Irkhu VDC due to lightning. nnnn
