JOURNALIST MEMO TO HOME MINISTER Kathmandu, 21 May:: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kathmandu chapter submitted a memorandum to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar demanding guarantee of journalists´ security, RSS reports.. The FNJ submitted the memo demanding security after attack on journalists, media houses and vehicles was increased in the first day of agitation called by different organizations, mainly the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Struggle Committee, in recent days for their rights. Kathmandu chapter President of the FNJ, Govinda Chaulagain submitted the memo after reading it. The memo stated that it was a matter of serious concern to attack media persons, who make public aware and help build opinion, and destroy vehicles of media houses. Urging all concerned to correct their anti-democratic activities immediately, the FNJ demanded with the government to give special attention on journalists´ security and to create an environment for covering news unhindered. The memo also demanded with the government for free treatment of the injured media persons and to provide compensation for their damaged vehicles within 24 hours. On the occasion, mentioning the protests by different organizations and major political parties on the attack of journalists, DPM Gachchhadar said that the government was committed to journalists´ security. Saying no one should obstruct the works of covering and dissemination of news, he condemned the attack and misbehave on the journalists. President of the FNJ, Shiva Gaunle said that the government was not responsible in journalists´ security and demanded to create an environment of covering news unhindered.
