Kathmandu, 28 May:: The meeting of the Central Supply Coordination Committee led by secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) has concluded that the frequent disturbances in delivery due to transportation strikes may hit normal supply of essential commodities, The Himalayan Times writes.. The supply of essential commodities may face hurdles due to disturbances faced while ferrying them even though there is enough storage and imports, said spokesperson at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Deepak Subedi. “The blockade of vehicular movement by various agitating groups throughout the country has created problems in delivering essentials to traders and even government agencies.” However, he claimed that the government has managed an effective mechanism to supply commodities such as medicines and petroleum products which are considered very crucial. The Ministry of Health has informed the Central Supply Coordination Committee that it has been supplying all basic medicines to all medical institutions despite the frequent strikes, added Subedi. The road blockades, especially in the southern plains, has affected the effort in ferrying goods, he further said. Similarly, various groups throughout the country have been creating hurdles in ferrying goods. However, the government will mobilise security agencies if agitators create hurdles in the supply of essential commodities for an extended period, he said. The committee has already directed all ministries and other agencies, which are responsible for supplying essential commodities and other necessities, to inform it if they face any problem in supply. The government last Monday had formed the Central Supply Coordination Committee led by the commerce secretary. Joint secretaries from the Ministry of Finance, Home Ministry, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and director general of Department of Commerce are members of the committee. General life has been hit hard due to frequent strikes and protests by various groups demanding various rights in the new constitution. nnnn
