NEPAL, AUSTRALIA COOPERATION ON ELECTION
Kathmandu, 25 May: Election Commission of Nepal, and the Australian Election Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the exchange of mutual cooperation in the sector of election management, RSS reports.
Commission Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala and Australian Deputy Election Commissioner Tom Rogers signed the agreement to this regard amidst a programme at the Commission Office on Friday on behalf of the respective sides.
Acting Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti, Commissioners Dolakh Bahadur Gurung and Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, and Australian Ambassador for Nepal Susan Grace were present on the occasion.
The MoU has talked about establishing cordial relations for the management of the election sector in both countries and creating opportunities for sharing mutual experiences on information technology.
As per the agreement, the two countries would share experiences on election system, development of the culture for democratic election, voters´ education and other aspects accepted by the both countries.
The MoU also mentioned about the exchange of information technology, exchange of the visits of the experts and officials of the both countries, joint studies and researches on electoral management and bilateral interests.
Speaking on the occasion, Acting Chief Commissioner Upreti expressed his hope that the agreement would help make the election system in Nepal more effective.
Similarly, Mr Rogers said the agreement would help strengthen the bilateral relations between the two organizations in the years ahead.
