UML STUDENT LEADER SAYS INDIAN CONSUL GENERAL IN BIRGUNJ MADE CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT
Kathmandu, 23 May: UML student leader Umesh Gupta from the Madesh said Wednesday in an article Indian Consul General SD Mehta last week did made a controversial statement inciting trouble in the south bordering India.
Indian foreign ministry and the Indian embassy denied the statements attributed to Mehta.
“Gupta said he was present at the reception where the statement was made,
“NC, UML and Maoists have made separate demands and needs on
Madesh issues. Choose a common leader, unite people and come up with
“That’s why for the interest of Madesh, unite active persons from amongst Madesh leaders and people from the front of Madeshis and choose a leader from amongst them. On this basis, launch a movement for Madesh,
“If this isn’t done, the state won’t listen to you, This is the only recourse
for a Madesh movement, There’s no alternative,” Gupta qoted Mehta as
saying in an article in Jana Astha entitled” Ushko Kura Sundai Ma Hamro Kaan Katne?
Leader Rambabu Yadav objected to the Mehta comment.
I wanted to get out after listening to Mehta, But I felt I must present my views.
My party unilaterally attempted to pressure me after reacting.
Does the party have the right to cut off our ears by listening to him [Mehta}?.
