UPDATE ON POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS Kathmandu, 24 May: The cabinet began meeting Thursday for its normal Thursday session but it comes after a landmark supreme court decision asking government to stay a government decision to extend the CA by three months after 27 May. The single bench of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi asked Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Law Minister Krishna Prasad Shitaula to be personally present at the court for a hearing. Shitaula, who is also deputy prime minister, has resigned following a brief tenure in office. UML standing committee also started a review of the apex court decision Thursday night. ‘There is still time to amend the constitution,’ Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said. Nnnn AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL REPORTS SOME NEPALIS FACED RETRIBUTION FOR AIRINV VIEWS Kathmandu, 24 May: The annual report of the Amnesty International Nepal has been made public on the occasion of the 51 st founding day of the Amnesty International, RSS reports. Amnesty Chairman Hem Kumar Khadka made the report public at a function Thursday. The report based on 2011 events states that death penalty has been eliminated for all crimes in 141 countries including Nepal. Likewise, citizens in 101 countries including Nepal were misbehaved for opposing governments and freedom of expression was banned in 91 countries including Nepal. nnnn
