UPDATE PM BHATTARAI CONFIRMS ELECTIONS 22 NOV. FOR CA
Kathmandu. 27 May: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai announced midnight elections will be held 22 November to seek a new mandate for the CA.
He hoped ‘forces for change will get a two-third majority’ in the new vote to drft a constitution with that majority required b the interim constitution..
The premier announced election date after informing the president of the cabinet decioon taken unilaterally and without prior consultation, Deputy Prime
Minister Ishwor Pokhhel said.
Bhattarai said he was confident President DR. Ram Baran Yadav will agree to the cabinet decision.
“The executive power is with the council of ministers,” the premier said.
‘e are going to the people for a fresh mandate,” Bhattarai said and dismissed NC and
UML opposition ‘that was for public consumption.”
The Pm said, ”There is no alternative to progressive change.”
He said election was possible n five months after assurances of election officials.
NC and UML were also going to the president to express opposition to the announced election.
