GAGAN THAPA HINTS NC MAY WITHDRAW FROM GOVT.
Kathmandu, 10 May: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Gagan Thapa has said that NC would not stay in the incumbent government if constitution was not likely to be promulgated on Thursday, RSS reports.
At a face-to-face programme organised today by Reporters' Club, he said, 'NC would pull itself out from of the present government if conspiracy was hatched to extend the CA tenure by six months after enforcing a state of emergency'.
Terming top leaders of four political parties as 'contractors', Thapa accused them of making CA member’s role insignificant by not allowing the convening of CA meeting for four years.
He further said that ethnicity-based federal states would not be carved out at anyone's whim while arguing that such provinces would not sustain.
On the occasion, UCPN-Maoist leader and CA member Hitman Shakya stressed the need to explore consensus between the proposal of 10 provinces floated by State Restructuring Commission and the 14 provinces recommended by the CA committee.
CPN-UML leader Rabindra Adhikari said proclamation of federalism based on ethnicity and carving out federal state with single caste domination would not be durable and would instead steer the country towards ethnic conflict and disintegration.
Terai-Madhes Loktrantrik Party (TMLP) leader Jitendra Sonal said conspiracy is being hatched to fail the constitution making process in different pretexts, making it clear that Madhesi Morcha, other Madhes-based parties and indigenous nationalities caucus are in favor of state restructuring based on the identity of single caste.
