22 PARTIES SUBMIT MEMORANDUM TO PRESIDENT Kathmandu, 13 June : Some 22 opposition political parties have submitted a memorandum to President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav this evening, calling for the latter’s intervention on the government’s move to introduce various ordinances without forging national consensus, RSS reports. They demanded the President stop the caretaker government’s act to unilaterally introduce important subjects including budget through ordinances without making national consensus. Following the meeting, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala said they have apprised the President of the seriousness they have taken to the government’s unilateral move of introducing ordinances instead of resolving the political and constitutional problems through consensus. CPN-UML Chairperson Jhalanath Khanal said they have informed the President about the government’s activities of governing the country in an unitary manner by ignoring the essence of national consensus. Stressing that the important issues such as budget formulation should be put forward on the basis of consensus, he said they have demanded that the role to be played by the President. On the occasion, President Dr. Yadav pledged to move ahead only after consulting with different sides as consensus is the way to sort out the problems, Khanal further said. Representatives from 22 political parties including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML called on the President and put forth the demands. Earlier, a meeting of the 22 political parties held at the NC parliamentary party office had decided to submit memorandum to the President saying the government was trying to introduce budget and other sensitive issues through ordinances unilaterally. nnnn
