6 GROUPS DISCUSSING KHANAL PAPER IN UML Kathmandu, 18 June: UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal in his political report to a two-day national meet Monday said the Baburam Bhattarai can’t conduct promised constituent assembly elections 22 November. He said sweeping constitution amendments are needed for the November vote. Six groups are discussing the report for adoption. The meeting Monday was adjourned until10 in the morning Tuesday. nnnn REVISED PEOPLE’S WAR DEATH TOLL 17,800 Kathmandu, 18 June:: Some 17,800 people died during the conflict in the country, said chief of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Relief and Reconstruction Unit, Ganesh Prasad Upadhyay, RSS reports from Banke. At an interaction organised in Nepalgunj on relief provided to the conflict-hit in mid-western regional level, Chief Upadhyay said Rs. 100,000 has been provided to the families of some 13,893 of the dead in the conflict. He said Rs 700,000 was already provided to the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police personnel killed in conflict. Rs. 200,000 each was provided to the family of 9,000 killed. The army and police did not get the amount as they had been given Rs. 200,000 from the special programme, the ministry said. nnnn
