ACTING PM GACHCHHADAR SAYS BHATTARAI GOVT. WILL HOLD ELECTIONS Kathmandu, 19 June: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar has said that the government led by Dr Baburam Bhattarai will hold elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA) in the declared time, RSS reports from Chitwan.. Talking to media persons at Chandragadhi Airport today, he said demanding resignation of the Prime Minister by opposition parties was unjustified. To say that caretaker governments cannot hold elections is unjustified, Home Minister Gachchhadar reminded that elections were held by caretaker governments in Nepali history. The Deputy Prime Minister, who had arrived in Bhadrapur to address a gathering of the district cadres of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) held at Shivagunj in Jhapa district, mentioned that there was no alternative to consensus and added that problems have been created as opposition parties were involved against the norms of the Interim Constitution even if they had shown flexibility. Mentioning the CA was dissolved without promulgating the new constitution as the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML did not understand public opinion on federalism, Gachchhadar clarified that the election was necessary for the new constitution. RSS Nnnn WITH MONSOON 10 SUNSARI VDCs FACE FLOOD THREATS Kathmandu, 19 June: Come monsoon and the people living in villages near the numerous streams and rivulets in the southern part of Sunsari district are under perpetual fear of flooding, RSS reports. A total of 19 Village Development Committees (VDCs) have been identified as the most- at-risk VDCs from floods in the district. In view of the risk of floods during the rainy season, local social and community organizations, with support from the Sunsari District Development Committee (DDC), are planning to conduct disaster mitigation training targeted at the youths. The risk of flooding by the Sunsarikhola stream has further increased with the project for construction of embankment on the bank of the stream from local Inaruwa to Bhutaha in limbo. This project is being implemented with the cooperation of the Government of India. Similarly, the spurs constructed along the eastern bank of the Kosi River have become worn out for lack of repair and entrenchment. The risk of flood from the the Tangra and Budhikhola streams are also high in the southern parts of Itahari and the Khanar, Sonapur and Duhabi VDCs. RSS Nnnn • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • TANKER PLUNGE KILLS ONE, INJURES FOUR Kathmandu, 19 June: A person died on the spot and four others were injured in a road accident at Panchkilo of Chandibhanjyang-9 in Chitwan district along Narayangadh-Mugling road section on Tuesday, RSS reports from Chitwan.. The deceased is Ram Krishna Rijal, 55, of Jogimara-1 in Dhading district, according to police. The accident took place when a tanker (Na 1 Kha 8222) heading towards Narayangadh from Kathmandu fell some 100 meters off the road. Bharat yadav, 50, of India, working at Manakamana in Gorkha district, Sharan Lama, 41, of Basamadi in Makawanpur district, Ajay Kumar Singh, 37, of Raksirang-2 in Makwanpur district and Dal Bahadur Gurung, 70, of Kurintar in Chitwan district were injured in the accident, said police. nnnn
