DETAILS ON PM’S MEETINGS WITH FOREIGN LEADERS IN BRAZIL Kathmandu, 22 June: Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said India was ready to provide full support to Nepal in the way Nepal government sought. During the meet with Nepal’s Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Thursday in course of attending the three-day Rio +20 conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Indian Premier expressed willingness to extend full-fledged support to Nepal being focused on economic agenda. With his concern over Nepal’s ongoing peace process, Mr Singh hoped that Nepal would manage its current transition to peace and democracy in a meticulous manner so that the country would move towards economic prosperity in the coming days, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai quoted Indian Prime Minister as saying. After the meeting, Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai said, ‘India wants Nepal to complete the peace process and have a strong multiparty democracy in line with the aspiration of Nepali people’. The significant part of the meeting was to promote the bilateral cooperation and mutual interests through the mechanism of Nepal-India Joint Commission at the level of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai added. India has also expressed readiness to smoothly supply electricity to Nepal as per the need. The meeting between the two leaders lasted for half an hour. Earlier, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai called on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha at Windsor Atlanta, Hotel Copacabana here Thursday morning. The leaders exchanged the political experiences of their countries and pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation at country level. ‘Sri Lankan President has shown interest to work with Nepal for the promotion of hydropower, development of Lumbini as a tourism hub and resume flight connections between Nepal and Sri lanka’, said the Prime Minister following the meeting. Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the President of Cuba and the Prime Minister of Turkey on the sidelines of the Conference the same day. nnnn
