DEUNA ASKSS PM BHATTARAI TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NATIONAL CONSENSUS Kathmandu, 15 June: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai to be responsible towards forging the national consensus, RSS reports.. Opening the 10th national convention of the Tribhuvan University Employees' Association in Kirtipur today, leader Deuba said the PM should be more responsible towards forging national consensus since the nation was passing through hard times. The dissolution of the Constituent Assembly without giving the nation new constitution has made the people sad, he said, and added achievements of the past movements could be protected and transition could be taken to conclusion if national consensus was forged. The Congress leader further stated that rift among the ethnic groups would provoke conflict in the country and stressed the need of keeping communal harmony and fraternity intact. Also speaking on the occasion, TU Vice Chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan said the role of TU in the development of the education sector in Nepal was significant and stressed that support and cooperation from all sides was necessary to end all the problems facing the University. TU Employees Union President Bhoj Kumar Basnet urged the TU management to address the problems faced by its employees. Some 200 representatives from the campuses under the University and 400 observers are taking part in the convention, it is learnt. nnnn ‘REACTIONARIES’ AGAINST FEDERATION BLOCKED A CONSTITUENCY SAYS MAOIST LEADER MAHARA AT START OF MAOISTL RALLY Kathmandu, 15 June: A grand mass meeting of the UCPN-Maoist has begun at Tundikhel in the capital today [Friday]. Participants of the mass meeting joined the programme after taking out rallies from different 12 places in the valley, RSS reports. Addressing the mass meeting, Standing Committee member of the UCPN-Maoist Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that the country could not get the new constitution as reactionaries did not accept federalism with identity. Mahara warned that the constitution will be written on the backing of the people if efforts are made not to allow the elections declared for November 22. Vice-Chairman Mohan Baidya faction is not present in the mass meeting though Chairman of the party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Vice-Chairman and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai are present in the programme. Nnnn BUT UML CHIEF BLAMES MAOISTS Kathmandu, 15 June: President of the CPN (UML) Jhala Nath Khanal has blamed the biggest political party in the dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA), the UCPN (Maoist), for the peace and constitution writing process not reaching the logical Conclusion, RSS reports. Speaking at a programme organized by the UML's Area Committee in the capital today, he said the UCPN-Maoist should take main responsibility for the failing to promulgate the constitution from the CA. Khanal said the largest political party and the government formed under the Maoist leadership should have taken the initiation to that effect, but it failed to do so. The UCPN-Maoist also lingered in the process of integrating and managing the Maoist combatants, he added. Similarly, he claimed that the UML was not against the rights of the indigenous community and urged the media to internalize this fact. During the programme, UML leader Pradeep Gyawali pointed out that the CA was dissolved without promulgating the constitution which he said was a sad incident. Nnnn BAITADI DAUGHTER-IN-LAW SHOT DEAD ACCIDENTALLY IN FIRING Kathmandu, 15 June:: A woman was injured in a gunfire opened by her own father-in-law in Baitadi on Thursday night. Tara Thalal, 32, of Dehimandau VDC-9 sustained serious bullet injuries after her father-in-law Premsingh Thalal, 67, opened gunfire following a family dispute, RSS reports from Baitadi. Injured Thalal was referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment after she could not be treated in Baitadi, according to Chief District Officer of Baitadi Govinda Mani Bhurtel. She has suffered bullet injuries on her left hand. It is learnt that the father-in- law Thalal had a dispute with his son Karan and fired the shot in anger but it accidentally hit the daughter-in-law. Following the incident, police has arrested Mr Thalal for further investigation into the case. nnnn
