ELECTION COMMISSIONER TELLS PM, PRESIDENT NOV. 22 ELECTIONS NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT ROMOVAL OF OBSTACLES
Kathmandu, 28 June: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kanth Uprety held separate discussions of the 22 November constituent assembly (CA) elections announced by government.
Announcement of parliamentary election is normally a
right of an elected government but the vote is for the CA for which there’s
mention of only one election in the interim constitution.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai called elections without consulting lection officials.
The vote isn’t possible without consensus between parties and amendment to the constitution and election laws, analysts say.
Elections aren’t possible in November without political consensus by the first weekof Sharawan [22 July] to remove legal hurdles.
‘But local elections can be held in November if CA elections aren’t
possible then,” Uprety said after the meetings

“’We are on a construction drive and you overturn the initiatives?” Prime MINister Baburam Bhattarai told Uprety angrily.” After election commission official told heprime minister elections aren’t possible in November because of legal hurdles,’ the premier was angry, a source said, according to Arjun Subedi in Nagarik.

DOTI BUS ACCIDENT TOLL INCREASES TO 12
Kathmandu, 28 June: Doti buss accident death toll has increased to 12 with the death of Sandhaya Mahara succumbing to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital across the border in India.
Two daughters survived with injuries.
The driver was asleep in an early morning accident when the vehicle
plunged 200 meters off a road.
He’s absconding.
Eighteen passengers were onboard the bus.
