FORMER ELECTION COMMISSIONER BHOJRAM CHIMERE
RULE OUT 22 NOVEMBER CA ELECTION
Kathmandu, 12 June: Former Election Commissioner and retired
Home Secretary Bhojraj Ghimere Tuesday ruled out constituent
assembly (CA) election 22 November announced personally by Prime Minister
Baburam Bhattarai.
He said this in an interview telecast by a television network.
‘The interim constitution envisages only one CA election. All laws relating to the election are geared around conducting one election,” Ghimere, who conuctedthe 2008 CA election said.
‘I was surprised at the initial reaction of the election commission [votecould be held 22 November. It has since been amended,” he said.
Opposition parties are even opposed to the election, Ghimere, who was hired by UN to oversee Sudan elections that led to the division of theAfrican state between north and south.
Monsoon begins in the next few days and normally lasts for 110 days early October.
No field work for election can be done with officials restricted to
district headquarters in all 75 districts
After monsoon ends, elections will have around five years to prepare for the vote.
Election Commission has said early snow in the Himalayan region will make voting impossible.
