FORMER PM CHAND ALSO URGES CONSENSUS; OTHER DETAILS Kathmandu, 30 June: Former Prime Minister and senior leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Lokendra Bahadur Chand has said that only the national unity could find away out to the protracted political deadlock in the country, RSS reports. Speaking at a programme organized by the Siward International College Thimi, Bhaktapur today, the former prime minister stressed the need of forging national consensus to establish the lasting peace in the country and for the safeguard of national integrity. "Now, the nation is passing through transition", he said adding that unity in every level from politics to cultural sector was necessary to give an outlet to the nation. On the occasion, leader Chand presented the Siward Running Shield to the Balkot-based Mount View English School that secured the highest marks from the district in the School Leaving Certificate ( SLC) examinations- 2068 BS. Likewise, the SLC toppers from the district including Iraj Parajuli, Arati Shrestha, and Rabindra Duwal were honoured on the occasion. : Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakasman Singh has said that his party would not participate in the elections to the Constituent Assembly announced by the government without forging political consensus. Speaking at a programme in the Capital today, leader KC stressed the need of forging consensus among the parties before going for the fresh CA elections. He said the CA elections announced in haste by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai for November 22, this year holds no meaning. The Prime Minister should immediately resign from the post to pave the way for the formation of the national consensus, said the NC General Secretary Meanwhile, Vice-President Parmanand Jha has said the unity among political parties had no alternative to solve the present political and constitutional crisis. Speaking at a programme organized by the Former Parliamentarians’ Forum on the occasion of the 54th Parliament Day in the capital Saturday, Vice-President Jha said the Forum could also play a role to forge political consensus. On the occasion, former chairman of the constituent assembly, Subash Nembang said the present crisis was resulted after the not interpreting the Supreme Court verdict properly and announcement next election to constituent assembly without any legal and constitutional preparations. Chairman of the organizing body and former speaker Taranath Ranabhat said it was unfortunate that bickering for power became the attitude of political parties. Founding chairman of the Forum Ram Hari Joshi said the State needs to utilize the knowledge and experience the former parliamentarians have.
