Kathmandu, 18 June: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Monday on recommendation of government and against pressures and requests of the opposition Monday promulgated Mutual legal Assistance Bill and Extradition through ordinance. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai recommended the ordinances be promulgated as he flies for Brazil on his first foreign visit after calling for constituent assembly elections 22 November. Bhattarai’s Maoist standing committee party meet Sunday after the government to postpone plans to fly abroad at a critical juncture and not to issue the ordinances. The premier disregarded both party suggestions. The government didn’t ask the president to issue a third ordinance on organized crime which the cabinet didn’t approve. Finance officials Nepal faced being blacklisted by the international community if the three bills to fight money laundering weren’t approved this week. nnnn STOCK PRICE REGISTERS SLIGHT GAIN Kathmandu, 18 June: Share prices registered a slight gain on the second day of five-way weekly trading Monday. Price gained 1.62 points or 0.5 percent to close at 327.49 points. Altogether 144,123 shares were sold in 673 transactions for Rs.29.187 million. Nnnn BIRENDRA CONVENTION CENTER LEASDED OUT FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS Kathmandu, 18 June: Secretariat of legislature/parliament has taken the Birendra International Convention on lease for another six months despite dissolution of parliament. The Center was taken from a government body managing the complex on an annual lease of Rs. 75 million. Nnnn THREE OF FAMILY DEAD, TWO SICK AFTER EATING WILD MUSHROOMS Kathmandu, 18 June: Three members of a Chepang family died and two others are seriously sick in Chitwan after eating wild mushrooms collected from a jungle Sunday. The sick are undergoing treatment at hospital. Deaths by consuming poisonous wild mushrooms are frequent during the annual reainy season. nnnn
