MAINALI SAYS HE WAS ILL-TREATED IN JAPANESE JAIL UPDATE
Kathmandu, 16 June: Govinda Prasad Mainali, 45, in a brief comment, said Saturday on arrival home from Tokyo, he was ill-treated by prison authorities while spending 15 years in jail for miscarriage of justice.
He was wrongly convicted for murder of a Japanese woman; the verdict was overturned gaining Mainali freedom.
Mainali, who was awaiting details of the verdict, made only a brief comment.
He thanked all who helped to secure his freedom.
An international campaign was launched on his behalf for miscarriage of justice.
Mainali claimed he was’ tortured’ and ‘verbally abused in prison and wasn;tprovided descent clothes.
